Birthday with snow

Well, today is my birthday! Not only that, but it's my "golden" birthday, as I turned 30 on the 30th today. It's been a good day, not too out of the ordinary of our recent routine. The rest o' the fam had some surprises waiting for me when we got home from the hospital, though!

We have had quite a bit of snow this past week/weekend (thankfully not enough to make the roads terrible enough to keep us stranded anywhere!), and the kids spent some time yesterday building some fantastic snowmen (well, woman and little person, I guess!), and they were the biggest ones we've been able to make yet. I'm particularly fond of the repurposing of our Christmas tree for hair and an arm. They used Mr. Potato head pieces for the faces. Very nice!

Stella spent a lot of the afternoon helping Grandma Sue. They made crowns for everyone to wear, napkin rings for the table decorations, and prepared a coconut cream pie for my birthday "cake," or "Happy cake" as Ezra calls it. It was delicious! We had it after the yummy mulligitawny soup Grandma cooked for supper. (It's been a great couple nights for food! Thursday we went out for Greek food, last night to the Himalaya--Persian, Indian, Himalayan food--and tonight Indian. I'm spoiled!) When we were done having pie, Ezra piped up with, "Have chocolate cookie now? Have more Happy cake?" He's relentless!

It's been a wonderful birthday, what with spending time with dear friends last night after over a month of not having good time to just hang out! It was lovely to just relax and enjoy a meal and good conversation, not to mention DELICIOUS soft-centered chocolate puddings for dessert. They were SO rich and yummy. I should have gotten a picture of them! I'm thankful Titus is doing so well, especially, as it would have been much harder to relax and enjoy the day(s) so easily if he was not as stable. Thank you all for the birthday wishes and prayers. I'm so thankful for all of you.

Speaking of Titus, he's doing great still! He's at 4 lb. 15 ounces, JUST shy of 5 pounds, which is amazing to me. We gave him his first true bath (not just a sponge bath), which he didn't seem to mind too much at all. He wasn't screaming bloody murder, anyway. Come to think of it, he really doesn't cry very often or much at all. He seems to be a pretty content little guy, which is very nice and I sure hope it stays that way! He's doing well learning how to nurse, and is having an easier time daily. This is our last big step, and one that will probably take some time, as he has to continue gaining weight while solely getting food on his own before he can leave the hospital.

The only sad thing about this weekend is that Sue will be going back home tomorrow. We have been so blessed to have her here to help us with the kids, cooking, cleaning, etc. She has been an amazing help in a time that would be VERY hard to be on our own. We are so thankful for parents who are willing to drop everything and come help when they are needed, and to be eager to do so. So, Sue, thank you for everything you have done, seen and unseen, these past two weeks. We love you! And thank you, Gordy, for sparing your wife. She'll be home safe in a day or so! We love you guys

Happy happy birthday, my dear! I'm so glad that you had a special day(s) to celebrate this milestone year.

It's exciting to hear that Titus is doing so well learning to nurse! That's quite an accomplishment, and so is his rapidly increasing weight! He does look so funny in clothing, after all of the diaper pics. He's incredibly sweet both ways! :)

love the numerical 29 + 1 candle. Made me laugh.
It's nice that you have some "down time" and normalcy in the midst of all the changes and craziness surrounding you.
