Heidelberg

So last weekend we decided to take a day trip to Heidelberg. It was a usual grey, cloudy day, but at least it wasn't raining. Surprisingly, it wasn't even that cold. 50 maybe? I don't really know. Anyway, so we went to the Tourist Info office, which is a good place to stop in any town, especially if you don't have any plans of what to do, or where anything is. Usually, they'll give you a map of the city for free (yup, free!). We knew there was a real nice castle, but didn't really know anything else. We decided to check out the old downtown area which has the longest walkplatz (pedestrian only) street in Germany. On the way we stopped so Nick could check out what kind of bikes people ride in Heidelberg.

So we went, ate some yummy Thai food, and window shopped. We then made our way to the castle.

It's a pretty impressive building, since a lot of it is still intact. We did not take a tour inside the castle, so to save it for another trip, probably when someone visits us. The way up was a little steep (I think there's probably a little easier route, but no matter), and Stella was getting a little antsy, as it was past her nap time already. Up on the first level there's a really nice view over the city so we stopped to take some photos and let Stella out to run around a bit.

Much better. She had fun as we went along just walking around the grounds with us, and nearly walking into a number of people. Why do all children have a funny way of walking in an opposite direction of where they're looking? She really enjoyed walking on a specific line of cobblestones that edged the walking path, and tried to keep on it like she was walking a tight-rope.
We just walked around the grounds, enjoying the view and being outside in the fresh air. It was quite lovely.

We also took a quick peek at the Apothecary (Pharmacy) museum. It was pretty cool, but I'm sure much more interesting for those who are pharmacists (Tim).
We then walked back to the city and Stella fell asleep on the way (at 5:30!) and we decided to just walk around and find a place to eat, then head home. We found a nice restaurant with a cozy table in the back where Stella could play, and had a pizza and some wine to finish off the day. We'll definitely return!
